Skip is the creator, producer, and host of the urban music radio show, A Funk Above The Rest! This unique program started broadcasting on Saturday nights from jazz89KUVO 89.3 FM out of Denver Co on January 6 of 2006 as a weekend specialty show. The rapid success of the show necessitated its relocation to a network that could support its growth. It is currently syndicated and broadcasting “live” or in its prerecorded formats on both terrestrial and digital stations around the U.S. and abroad. It’s one of the hottest Urban R&B Music Programs on the airwaves! The “live” show broadcasts on digital media tation KZKO – The Vibe, a division of the Denver Media Group. This network reaches out to listeners in over 160 countries!
The 1st Friday of every month (9pm-11pm MST) and the last Thursday of every month (12am-3am MST), a live broadcast of the show is also heard from terrestrial station KGNU 88.5fm/1390am, out of Boulder/Denver Colorado reaching a diverse audience of community radio listeners. (A Funk Above The Rest is heard on over 40 stations with an average monthly listenership of up to 1.5 million). Skip also lends his support to, and host’s/emcee’s many charitable fundraising events, concerts, does voiceovers, serves as a panelist at music conferences and seminars, judges for various talent and song contests, and has served as a presenter for several award programs.
Concert Promotions/Booking Agency
As a co-owner of SJR Media Group LLC, and along with other partnering agencies, Skip produces national & international level concerts and performances. Productions include events with major recording artists such as The Dazz Band (Grammy Winners), The Brides Of Funkenstein, Slave, Carl Carlton, TeCheetah, The James Douglas Show, Tierra, Tony Dize, Lakeside, Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes, Cameo, Midnight Star, Con Funk Shun, Lenny Williams, and Maze featuring Frankie Beverly! SJR Media Group also serves as a booking agency for many local and major artists, and performance venues.
SJR Media Group has been or continues to be a promotional arm for prestigious national level events and festivals. These do or have included Jazz in The Gardens (Miami), Long Beach Funkfest (Long Beach CA), Globalquerque (Albuquerque NM), The Black Kansas Expo (Kansas City MO), The Winter Park Jazz Festival (Winter Park CO), The Family RAYunion, a tribute to Ray Charles (Duluth GA), and Woody Stock (Coconut Grove FL), The Zora Festival (Eatonville FL), the Brazilian Fest (Pompano Beach FL), the Soul Food Festival, The Red Cat Jazz Festival (Galveston Island TX), San Diego Bayfest (San Diego CA), and the Funk Fest Tour.
Skip, in collaboration with Dr. Stephen Wilson N.D, host’s a nutritional based program called “At Least Think About It?” The show is broadcast at the digital media website, www.kzkoradio.com every 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month. Guest appearances from various fields of health care and fitness are featured on the show.
The kzko Report is a community based program the highlights and features both local and national businesses. Skip co-host’s this show with Rob Richfield every Thursday night from 7-8pm MST. You can hear this broadcast at www.kzkoradio.com
A Funk Above The Rest Radio Network was an official sponsor of Motown’s 50th year Anniversary celebration for the year of 2009. The show has been featured on Channel 9 News (leading TV newscast in Denver), the Urban Spectrum Magazine, and Denver’s #1 Magazine 5280. It was the only approved radio network to promote “The After After Party” compilation CD sponsored by McDonalds and The Arkiteks Music Group.
Skip has the honor and privilege of being the only radio host in all of America that is sponsored by Funky Town Grooves Record Label which is based in London England.
Children’s Radio Programming
Skip Reeves along with Melvin Boone founded, wrote, and produced the show Bigmouth and Knucklehead’s Readertainment! They took the program to radio stations KHOW 630 AM and Radio Disney 1360 AM in Denver after 5 years of producing it for television. See comments below under TV.
5-04 thru 6-05
A Funk Above The Rest Radio Network hosted The 1st School of Funk which for 6 years (2007-2013) happened every Tuesday, at the world famous Jazz@Jacks. It was a night of groove, funk, and dance at one of the hottest live music venues in the downtown Denver Entertainment District. The event was sponsored by Funky Town Grooves Record Label and has won two awards (2008, 2013) in the “best of” The Westword Magazine.
Skip is a published writer, contributing articles to several magazines of entertainment content and music reviews. Some of these magazines include The Monitor, Signature Women Today, Big The Magazine, Modern Drummer, Indulge Lifestyles Magazine, Colorado Music Buzz, Latin Life Denver and The Urban Spectrum.
Skip has hosted, organized, and promoted fundraising events for such organizations as Colorado Autism Society, African American Leadership, Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition, MS United For Young Adults, and Shadow Theatre to name a few.
3-06 to present
Skip was a producer, writer and co-host, of the Television Series Special, The Independent Artist Showcase. Skip has always been an advocate of independent artists in the music industry. He is aware that they produce music just as good and at times, better than that of major artists. The show ran on Colours TV channel 9407 Dish Network. Skip has facilitated several artists getting national and international exposure through his TV and Radio programs. For the last 2 years, Skip has been a judge for the Independent Music Awards based out of New York.
3-08 thru 3-09
Skip was a co-host and producer for the local TV show Bigmouth and Knucklehead’s Readertainment. The program was a half hour show with its focus on literacy, aimed towards youth’s ages 4 thru 13. It ran on DCTV Channel 57 for over 5 years and was one of the stations most viewed programs.

Professional Drumming & Singing Career
Began drumming and singing professionally at the age of sixteen with a local popular band, eventually progressing to writing, recording, performing, and touring with major and independent artists. Because of his height, Skip became known as “The Worlds Tallest” drummer! He was an endorser of top brands of equipment including Aquarian Drum Heads, Remo Master Touch Drum Series, Sabian Cymbals, Pro Mark Drum Sticks, and other small percussion pieces. He has been featured in several local and national magazines. Some artists he has recorded, toured, or shared the stage with include, sixty’s rock & roller Mitch Ryder, drummer Buddy Miles of Jimi Hendrix fame, jazz great Alphonse Mouzon, blues harmonica man James Cotton, guitarist Sundance, The Marvelettes from Motown, The Drifters, The Platter’s, The Coasters, The Temptations, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Average White Band, Boney James, Chris Botti, Santana, and the list goes on.
